I have yet to find a perfect notetaking gadget. More often than not, simply being able to type, no matter how fast, will not suffice to capture an idea. Over at To-Done, Keith speaks highly of taking notes by hand. Get a notebook. Bring it with you. Separate things over time, and separate meeting notes from "ideas". My problem was always misplacing my notebook and starting over every time. Plus, I take lousy notes. I never seem to hear things that seem worth writing down. But that goes to show how badly organized I am. :)

Re: Sometimes manual is still better
I've recently purchased a mobile notetaker, which I think is great - for those big, long meetings with lots of diagrams, scibbles, notes in the margin, etc. etc. I've tried in a couple of long meetings/brainstorms (5-8 hours) and it is so much better than trying to type notes (while scribbling diagrams to be scanned in later). You can check out my commentary on it at http://gtdwannabe.blogspot.com/2005/07/taking-notes-on-go.html
