Ok, did Fantasia look horrible, or what? Was it the dress? Or is the girl packing some serious junk into that trunk now that she's all rich and famous? Or is she just channeling Aretha Franklin in body as well as soul? She can sing, I'll give her that. Even though at one point she did pull a face that made me think of Eddie Murphy doing his Bill Cosby impersonation.

Anyway, on with the show. The great thing about the early week is that there's lots of people to get through, and lots going home, so not a lot of time for filler. Up first for the boys, Paul Kim goes home. I thought that an Asian vote would carry him farther, but I guess not. Up first for the girls...well, Antonella actually sticks around another week, which I suppose is a surprise as big as Fantasia's behind. Amy goes home. Who? The one that Simon called "forgettable." Exactly.

Round 2 for the boys they let it get all the way down to Sanjaya and Rudy, and for a minute I'm worried that the audience just can't get behind an Indian Idol, but no worries as Rudy goes home. He gets no love from the judges, either, as even Simon's advice is "I can't make an ok singer into a great singer." Well then.

For the girls it comes down to Nicole who sang the weirdly angry song that no one understood, and Alaina, the pretty one that Ryan was hitting on. Any guesses? Right. Nicole goes home.

The downside of early week eliminations is that it's really a who cares sort of event. Whether you go home in the first week or the third week is irrelevant if you don't make the final 12. It's pretty much a given who will make the final 6 of the girls (Stephanie, Sabrina, Lakisha, Melinda, Jordin, Gina), but for the guys it's wide open.
