I've been seeing the commercials for "National Bingo Night" for awhile. This is the one with the Indian man in the referee's outfit yelling "No bingo!" The latest crop of game shows (1 vs 100, Identity, etc...) have failed to really catch fire, so I've been hoping for one that would be fun to actually get behind and enjoy. The question, of course, was going to be "How do you play competitive Bingo? Isn't it just random numbers?" Well, here's how you play it. You get a contestant (more on that in a minute) and have him play a random number game. One of the games was "Guess red or black", one was "Try to get numbers with 5's in them", and one was "Try to eliminate the digits 1-9". In each case all the contestant does is press the button to serve up a bingo ball. The catch is that the audience is, in fact, the ones playing Bingo. So the idea is that the contestant has to win their game before anybody gets bingo. Interesting, actually. The longer the game goes on, the better the chance of someone getting bingo. As people get "one away" from Bingo, they stand up, so the contestant feels that much more pressure. What's fun is that you can play at home, and not online like a bunch of other lame games. Here you actually print out bingo cards, each of which has its own unique identifier. So if you win you can punch the number back in and claim a prize. Sure the prizes are lame (like movie tickets or a $5 KMart coupon), but hey, it's a reason to get into it. You can print a bunch of cards and everybody can play. Now, back to the contestants. Like all television game shows, the contestants are just crazy annoying. Where do they get these people that have no problem making complete fools of themselves, jumping up and down and screaming crazy things? It's the most annoying part of the show. Basically I tivo'd the whole thing and fast forwarded through the contestant parts to get to the actual number drawing. I didn't win anything. Oh well, there's always next week.

Re: National Bingo Night : I Like It
Is there a way to find out how many people actually won bingo at home?

I would think that legally there must be, that's always in the fine print of these contests so you can prove that they're not being fixed. But I have no idea if it would be worth the trouble to find out.
What was neat, if you saw the show, was the lady in the middle (white) game won her game so fast (only drew 7 balls) that they knew nobody at home had won, so they asked her to keep drawing balls out. So there's a neat technical question there of how they knew that. They know ahead of time, regardless of how many tickets were actually printed, how many of each they generated.

Hey guys ...
The show is pre-taped. Therefore, NBN already knows what the winning numbers are before any cards are printed. They are aware, before the show ever airs, exactly how many winning cards there will be in circulation. It's actually more like a scratch-off game ... the end result is pre-determined.
However, in the game you're talking about, there was mathematically not enough balls called to create a winner. There has to either be 5 of one group (B - I - N - G - O) or one in each group (except N which is a free spot). There hadn't been a B called ... which meant there literally coult NOT be a bingo called.
That's really frustrated me the last couple weeks ... because there are times that they have cut to the referee/judge guy and ask, "Do we have a bingo?" HUH? Of COURSE we don't have a bingo ... there haven't been enough balls drawn out yet!
I think I've played WAY too many games of bingo over the years ... haha :)

The Red game is the one where everybody wins a KMart card. I believe the White and Blue games (I won a Blue one, myself) are strictly "you're entered into a drawing to win the prize." I am assuming since I didn't get a call either that they don't go calling every single person that didn't win, we just have to assume that if we didn't hear from them, we lost.

We did too, Cheryl - that same game. When nobody called us, we threw out the card. Hope nobody calls now! :)
The winners for the 6/22 game are not posted on the website, though, so I do wonder if they aren't done contacting people yet. Who really knows.
